I remember hearing this quote as far back as I can remember. It’s not until recently that I truly understood it though. Think of the food we eat as fuel. It gives our bodies the energy which they require to function well. You wouldn’t feed your car with the wrong type of gas and expect it to run, so why do we do this with food? If you’re not feeding your body with the right quality and quantity of food, you simply won’t experience optimal health levels.
We have trillions of cells in our body which are all demanding in their own way. They require a constant supply of energy in order to function properly. It’s the nutrients in our daily diet which give the cells their energy. Food directly affects these cells which all control our cravings, our thinking capacity, our sleep habits, our mood and our energy levels. Imagine what happens when the cells first see powdered, bright orange “cheese” or aspartame ladened candy. The body literally goes into a state of shock and has to work on overdrive to detoxify and break down these foreign foods. There is absolutely no nutritional benefit from these processed foods and our cells are left without nutrients.
The next time you feel a little low in energy or notice that your sleep patterns are disturbed, check in with your daily diet. The relationship with food and health is significant. Our diet plays a huge role in promoting good health and wellbeing. Begin to listen to your body. If a certain food gives you indigestion, gas or bloating, maybe it’s time to rethink your food choices. Rather than take an antacid pill, don’t eat the food that’s giving you the problems. Once we start listening to our bodies, we’ll notice a positive change!
